How Does a Sump Pump Work?

As water fills the pit, the float rises. Once the float reaches a certain height, it activates the switch for the motor to turn on and start pumping out water. Sump pumps also have a filter in them to prevent debris and rocks from getting sucked into the pump and damaging the mechanisms.
